Our Story
Yūgen Studio is the story of two artist friends: Malice and Sarah (Nemesis). We met at 16 in high school, during art class, and even before we were friends, we already admired each other's work. That's where it all began: our first joint projects, the stories we invented together, and the foundations of a shared visual universe.
Creating our space
We created our own studio to work on what we’re truly passionate about: experimenting, exploring new techniques, collaborating with other artists, and continuing to create with the same joy we had in high school. But we were missing an element that would allow us to infuse a bit of magic into our illustrations, while fully reflecting our aesthetic.
Technique
One day, we discovered a hot stamping technique accessible to small creators. And that's when everything made sense. We embarked on this printing project, we learned, we persevered, and after several years of experimentation, we finally achieved a professional result that met our requirements.
Artistic approach
Our artistic approach draws inspiration from already rich visual worlds such as Japanese aesthetics, dark pop, and fantasy/sci-fi, with a poetic, futuristic, and slightly mysterious touch. We have always been fascinated by materials that capture light — holography, gilding, shiny textures — it was natural for us to make it our signature.
In reality, we create what we would like to see on the wall. Many of our works are a dialogue with light, as they change appearance depending on the angle and time of day. They animate silently and become a presence that catches the eye and is a pleasure to contemplate.
